Walter Basansky was arraigned in 73rd District Court Sept. 16 on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon-felonious assault, domestic violence, malicious destruction of police property, fleeing police officer fourth degree, assault or assault and battery, and police officer assault - resist- obstruct.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Basansky's residence in the 5000 block of Wellman Line on Sept. 14 around 8 a.m., after he allegedly assaulted his 75-year-old mother and threatened to kill her with a knife. The woman had left the house and called police from a different location.

After unsuccessful attempts to contact the suspect, deputies returned the following afternoon. Authorities claim Basansky attempted to flee the residence in his pick up truck, but was taken into custody after the truck collided with a patrol car in the driveway. The officer was treated at a hospital for a wrist injury.

Basansky demanded a preliminary examination, which was scheduled on Sept. 24. Bond was set at $25,000.
