Area veteran to compete in Wheelchair Games



MARLETTE -- Gary Grubbe, a Navy veteran from Marlette, will compete with more than 500 other disabled veterans at the 28th National Veterans Wheelchair games this month. The competition this year will be held in Omaha, Nebraska from July 25-29.

Grubbe has been participating in the Games since 2002 and will go for the gold in bowling, air guns, the power chair relay, and the power chair 200. Last year, he won two gold medals, including his first place in the Power Chair 200 Open Division, and a silver meda; in Air Guns, Open Division.

Grubbe will be joined by 11 other Michigan athletes at the Games, including Scot Severn, a veteran from Caro, Michigan, who has just earned a spot on the U.S. Paralympic Team.
